Opening of The Charleston Bar
Tennent Caledonian Breweries New Place in Kilmarnock. Another phase in Tennent Caledonian Breweries' programme of extending the licensed premises in their managed houses division was completed back in 1972 with the opening of the Charleston Bar, New Farmloch, Kilmarnock. The complex cost £70,000 to build and was opened officially by the Provost of Kilmarnock, Mrs Ann Mackie, who said the Charleston Bar should be a great attraction for residents in the thriving community around it. The premises contains a function suit, complete with bar, which can accommodate up to 120 people, a public bar, and catering facilities. In the summer of 2014 a fully licenced restaurant and takeaway was opened in what was once the public lounge area. The interior decor was carried out by Mr. George Milne, chief interior designer, and his staff, Mr. Milne has blended murals of the Charleston dance era with modern fittings. The first manager was Mr. William Barrie, who had the assistance of his wife, Agnes. Present manager is Steven McIntosh |
